Austria Tradition and Sleep Hormones

I was on my way back home after completing my duties at school. I was waiting at the metro station for the metro to come. I met my old student, Sarla. She said, "  Madam, what happens in the morning time is very peculiar. After 5 am temperature of #environment gets a little cooler, and the body becomes #comfortable. I get deeper sleep and am in no #mood to get up early in the morning. I always wonder why it is so.

Science #finding indicates that sleep hormone #"melatonin" responds to darkness and cooler temperatures. Therefore, I found that in the morning I get deep sleep. But unfortunately, it is time to get up and make myself ready to go to school for my #teaching duties. "

I said, "If one gets good sleep at night, one feels fresh and #relaxed the whole day. Good sleep is a sign of #good health. Good sleep regulates all #hormones secreted in one's body."

I further said, "In Austria, people are particular about #sleep hormones. In order that people get good sleep, they open their house window at a frequency of 2 hours for a short while so that the air inside the house, which is moist due to cooking and #breathing, etc, gets replaced by cool, fresh air. This activity brings a lowering of temperature which response to more production of the sleep hormone through the brain glands. "

This process of opening windows of the house/ working place to make the house full of cool, fresh air, is customary in Austria. This practice is a fabric of Austrian culture. They call it #"Luften Time".

Moral -To get good sleep, one should make sure that bedroom has enough #darkness and #cooler temperature available.

Abstract Maths

I am a science teacher in a government school. My students come from #diverse backgrounds. #Mathematics is a subject that many students find very #challenging. Some of my students believe in studying in groups. They also do heart-to-heart discussions for dealing with personal problems. Students belonging to a particular group have good #bonding.

I observe that each member of the group is very serious about #mathematics problems, and they are very particular about #numerical problems of Physics and Chemistry. While teaching physics and chemistry always tell my students to take care of #units of quantity one is handling while doing #numericals.

Sita and Gita were also members of the #inner circle of the study group of students. Some students used to face many difficulties while handling maths problems. Gita used to approach me. Whenever possible, I will give #personal attention to Gita to solve her mathematics problems. Gita was finding it difficult to cope in a group, especially while handling #mathematics problems. But to my surprise, I found that #Sita every day will come half an hour early to school to teach difficult problems of mathematics to her #best friend Gita.

I found that, slowly, Gita was picking up the difficult problems of mathematics. In my heart, I thanked #Sita for doing wonderful help to her #friend Gita. In class, I said, "Look, students, one should have #friend like Sita. Sita is helping Gita in every possible way so that she can cross the threshold of # mathematics' difficult problems. "

Sita said, "Madam, myself Gita and we are best friends. We both share jokes, personal problems, and the #challenging situation of our lives with each other. Now my friend is in deep #problems because of less mathematics training. Therefore, it is my #moral duty to help out Gita in every possible way. I was so happy with Sita's #maturity level. Other students in class got an important #message from the kind doing of Sita for her friend Gita. One student said, "Madam, this is an example of true friendship. "

Hand-Eye-Mind Coordination

I am a science teacher in a government school. There are  #students coming from different types of backgrounds in my class. When I teach in class, some serious types of students prefer to write salient points of my lecture in #notes copy by #hand, they bring every day to school.

Other students will sit and listen to my lecture, unless I give them some #numerical problems to solve in the classroom.

These students are strong # believers that all important points of my lecture they will get from #NCERT books, and if more knowledge is needed, they will explore #internet sites and YouTube, giving the required information. These students are # digitally friendly persons.

My submission to all my students is that it is better to write class notes of any lecture given by the teacher in class with hands in a note notebook, as this activity makes the student hand-eye-mind coordination good and makes them alert in class. If there are doubts about a particular concept in a student's mind, they can be cleared then and there by #interactive activities between the student and the teacher. This will make the learning process more efficient for #students. Students this way become more creative and #develop various skilled #faculties. They do not require apparatus (machine)and electricity, #dependent on any work. This activity also makes students self-dependent and #adventurous.

Many students say, "Madam, taking notes with hands is an old school thought. One has to keep a note copy safe and handy. "Other students are of the view that they find writing notes with their hands a very powerful way of #learning.

Moral- to make one's mind active and sharp, students should follow the old school of thought and write notes with their hand.

Leader Raising Voice

I am a science teacher in a government school. I had a very #brilliant student, Radha, in my class. I had made her monitor of class. She was very #meticulous in her work. She had scientific aptitude. For executing small science experiments in the lab, I  always used to take her help. She used to give new ideas to group mates involved in #executing a science experiment. She had good skills in making a report of the experiment. I always used to suggest other students in my class to #consult Radha before submitting a report of a science experiment.

Unfortunately, Radha had a habit of #raising her voice with her friends when they were not able to follow her instructions. Since Radha was in the habit of #raising her voice so other students always used to complain to me, "Madam Radha is a good leader, but she #raises her voice whenever we are not able to implement her instructions. We feel Madam Radha has #superiority complex. "

I called Radha and said, "Radha, it is not good to #raise your voice while giving your valuable consultations to fellow students. Please practice # self-control to make yourself a better science student. It is better to raise your words. Using words which give #positive appeal in an argument with fellow students always brings #positive results.' 'Radha started following my advice, and I observed she used to try her best not to #raise her voice with fellow friends and students. Radha became a better #leader. She herself realised that positive change in her personality has made her a more #accepted and popular leader of students. Are you also in habit of raising voice?

Moral - #Raising voice is not going to help one make one's argument effective. It is better to make efforts to #raise positive words in one's argument #statement.

Advise by Well Wisher

Teach science in a government school. When I was young in my profession, I always used to follow #advice of my senior teachers. I always believed in learning from #experienced people. I learnt many useful #tricks from my respected mother-in-law. How nicely she would handle #difficult situations.

Now in this era of science and technology, I sometimes # advise my younger colleagues. But #opinion of society in general has changed a lot. If my friends see me #advising younger colleagues, they make fun of me. My friends tell me, "Madam, stop #advising, nobody wants to listen to your stereotypical advice. On the other hand, they make fun of you, madam".

Now, after many years, I met many people with whom I have had the opportunity to interact on any platform. They sometimes tell me, "Madam, we are following your valuable advice. " Inside my heart, I feel happy.

I am in the habit of giving #positive compliments to students/teachers if I find something #unique in their ways of #approaching a problem. The other day I met my old student, he told me, " Madam, your positive compliments about my way of #approaching problems have given me #strength. When I sit alone, and always thank you for your #encouragement. "

I strongly believe that one cannot only help people around oneself by giving #monetary and physical help. People can be helped by #someone's #positive compliment and #advice.

Silver. Nano Wires. AgNWs

 Tiny silver nanowires have

got some exciting properties,
unfurling applications for
many advanced technologies.

Attacking bacteria and viruses,
they’re good for making medical masks;
enhancing sterile surfaces;
ideal for many medical tasks.

Conducting electricity,
absorbing, also scattering light
will make them touch-screen wonders
and an energy-storage delight.

With potential for synapse-like signalling
this next trait might seem strange.
We think networks of silver nanowires
could hold memory like a brain.
