I am a science teacher in a government school. After teaching a small chemistry concept, as a home homework assignment, I ask students to read the #NCERT BOOK and write the description of the concept in their own words.
Reading-Writing-Doing
For example, to write the difference between #boiling and #evaporation, some intelligent students draw the #diagrams and also look into #u tube videos if possible and then write the #difference between the two above-mentioned concepts..As a teacher, always encourage and appreciate those students who use the internet in #positive way. I also inspire #other students to follow the same procedure to get #success in life. If time permits, I make #arrangements for students to show chemistry concepts in lab, which I taught in theory class. This activity gives them hands-on experience in life.
Some students do ask me ques question:" Madam, why are you so particular about our reading and writing habits?"
To answer those students about the same, I wrote a small article "Reading-Writing-Doing" for the benefit of my students and pasted the same on the notice board of my school. The same I am listing below for my esteemed readers.
Dear students, as a teacher, I wish my students to give a good description of anything or a phenomenon whenever they are asked to do so. Writing a good description of 'anything assigned" is a learned skill. One should learn this skill.A prerequisite for learning this skill is
1. Read a lot
2. Write a lot
3. Never hesitate to get hands-on experience for assigned positive activities in life
There are three relevant questions about above mentioned prerequisite.
1. How much to read
2. How practice of writing help one with how to write?
3. How does experimenting in the lab/in life/home front give one hands-on experience of learning by doing?
Answer to above mentioned questions if one gets in "yes" format, one is sure to get success in life.
To conclude, dear students, I, as a teacher, try my best to make my students answer above mentioned question in the yes format. That is the goal of my teaching. I hope you will now appreciate my concerns for
Moral-One can learn only by doing, even if it is reading, writing or hands-on experiences. One cannot succeed in life unless one reads a lot and writes a lot, and does hands-on experiments a lot.
