Teachers Summer Vacation

I was attending my friend's daughter's wedding. People at that wedding party were of the popular belief that teachers spend their summers on tropical beaches, eating special ice creams.

I happened to talk with guests at a party function and said, "We teachers actually spend summer vacation time catching up on all the work we couldn't get to during the school year."

We attend professional development workshops, plan #curriculum for the upcoming year, and grade an endless pile of papers.

The length of summer vacation varies from district to district. It also depends on whether the school is public or private.

Some districts might have slightly shorter summers, while others may extend them.

During our casual conversation, I told a guest at the party," Trust me, sir, even a few #weeks won't make this vacation as glamorous as you seem to think."

So, friends, please, before one thinks of dismissing a teacher's summer vacation as a luxury, please take a moment to appreciate the hard work and #dedication that goes into being an educator. Teachers may get a break, but our minds and hearts are constantly invested in the betterment of our students. They make projects as teaching aids to teach difficult concepts like quadratic equations in the subject #mathematics. They sometimes work on a #research paper to be presented at an educational conference. Sometimes these research papers require a lot of data to be collected. To collect data and convert the same into #analytical equation requires programming knowledge and so on. Learning new educational tools(computer software) to teach students takes time. Teachers use #summer vacation to learn educational tools.

Moral of the Story: Good teachers' minds and hearts are constantly invested in the betterment of their students. Summer vacation is the best time for a good teacher to go for professional development.

Tranquility

I was teaching science in school. In co curricular activity class, our guest speaker Mr Nandi talked to students about concept of body -soul-  peace. He also talked to students about the #karma theory described in the Hindu epic #Shrimad Bhagavat Gita. All teachers were very happy as students asked so many questions about good- bad karma. We thanked our guest speaker for the excellent spiritual talk, which enlightened students as well as teachers.

Mr Nandi made me think hard about the karma theory of the Hindu epic Gita. I came back from school, and before sleeping, I wrote a small poem remembering my mother. Poem "Family-Body-Soul-Peace" I pasted the same on the notice board of the school for students to read. The same I am listing below for my esteemed readers

Family-Body-Soul

For my mother, her family is her soul.

The whole day she works without stopping,

For family for extended kin,

Her noble deeds keeps peace within,

In equilibrium with her physical body,

 Her actions propagate peace,

 In each family member's soul,

She seeks blessings from God,

  Which acts as positive catalyst,

Turns around prosperity,

In the life of each member of a joint family,

Gives  peace of mind, integrity,

and the purpose of living for the entire family.

Similarly, May God initiate world peace and tranquillity,

In the world family , where all live,

 Harmoniously with   neighbors,

Respecting all sentiments around them .

Friends let my Karma Start the light,

From my home to world's height.

Jewels in garland of society

I was teaching science in school. I observed that one of my good students, Raka, looked a little tired.

I called Raka and inquired about the reason. She said, "Madam, my mother’s health has not been very good for some days, and the doctor has advised her not to do any kind of work and only take rest. So my sister and have to do the entire #housework. Doing household work like #washing utensils,  cleaning, and making food. "

I said, "Raka, I know it is a difficult task because mothers never burden their children with house hols work. They think that it's children's age to study, not to do housework."

I further  said " But  Raka, have you noticed people always make fun of women,  # homemakers, because they think housewives only sit at home and do nothing the whole day? But see, my child, doing all this work also requires so much #hard work."

Raka said, "Madam, we both sisters are doing household work, but we are not able to do my mom’s level of work. We literally feel very tired, and interestingly, my mom manages to do all this work along with her job alone."

I said, "My student, it is a misconception that homemakers' work is trivial. According to me home homemakers are contributing a lot to building a harmonious society. Good homemakers are down-to-earth people. All members of the family learn a lot from their informal education.

Raka said, "Now I realize, Madam, why many of my good friends repent being home economists. They always complain that sometimes a home homemaker's job is so hard that it drains one's whole energy. But demand from family keeps increasing."

I said to Raka, "You are absolutely right. I wish family and society soon realize that homemakers are a precious jewel and a pearl in the garland of society."

Moral of the Story-Being a #housewife and doing #housework is not as easy as people sometimes feel. One only realizes the value of this work when one actually has to do all # household work by oneself.

Back Bonding Chemistry

I was teaching my students the concept of back bonding in chemistry class. Back bonding is a chemical phenomenon in which electrons pass from one atom's atomic orbital to an acceptor (ligand). The metal's electrons are used to bind to the ligand, relieving the metal of excess negative charge in the process. I  summarized my lesson in the form of a poem. The same I am listing below for my esteemed readers.

I am Carbon #monoxide(CO), a daughter

Transition#Metal(TM) is my mother

She is special as she has d electrons in her outermost orbit.

I, CO, wish to be together with my #mother (TM)

To do so, I form a sigma bond by overlap

Of my non-bonding (or weakly anti-bonding)

sp-hybridized #electron pair on my carbon

With a blend of d-, s-, and #p-orbitals on the TM -My mother

After the formation of the #sigma bond,

There is an overlap of filled d-orbitals on the TM (mother)

With a pair of #pi- antibonding orbitals

Projecting from the carbon atom of  me (CO),

This bonding is from #TM to CO

Rather than usual from CO to TM

It involves pi orbitals.

This phenomenon is called #pi back bonding(BB)

The compound formed with BB of d electrons has pi bonding character.

Through BB, the TM-carbon (part of me) bond is strengthened

An Open Letter to Children From Game Changer - Thomas Edison

An Open Letter to Children From Game Changer - Thomas Edison

Kids,
When I was young,
Like you I had inquisitive mind,
I will ask many questions,
My teacher thought I could not learn,
And sent me home,
My genius mother knew for sure,
That I am not a fool.

I was little hard of hearing,
That helped me in concentrating my work,
And constantly having creative quest for scientific work,
I was not afraid of my mistakes,
I worked very hard for years to invent,
I perfected the light bulb
You use today

When I grew as adult I was  just the big kid,
I may had forgotten how to have big fun,
But from time to time I constantly  reminded ,
Myself   to have fun,
That gave me courage and perseverance,
To discover primaliry version of batteries,
Radio or TV and X-ray perfect you have today,
I am so happy how my discoveries are game changer,
And have helped youngsters,
In removing the  dull  lives of today.

My sincere advise to you friends,
Stay young as long as you can,
You have creative spirits,
Don’t let the world spoil your,
Scientific analytical creativity.

Relationship Maths

 thechakkar@gmail.com

 Relationship  Maths

We measure its length through years,

We frame its breath ,

Through social media views ,

We count its surface area,

We choose whats in the news,

Friends surface area measures,

 Shows superficial  relationship in nature,

Yet without depth in relationship,

Soul feels thin weak,

But when volume dimension is in picture,

Bond relationship become strong and eternal.

We realise soon  true relationship bond,

Signatures are in depth  and volume,

Not in area surface.

We keep measuring relationship ,

But we forget one metric important ,

That matter most,

Depth creats volume,

Volume makes it eternal,

If you just look at Surface,

You will just get area ,

If you concentrate  on volume,

You wiil get heart true.

Integral Part of My Life

It's my fortune that I can carry out research work with the help of my able students in my Institute.

I was talking to my students after my"research result progress meeting". This meeting is held every week. After this meeting, I told my students Okay, students, it's time for myevening walk.

Every day I take a break from my work and go for a walk for an hour.Students told me that they appreciate my evening walk.

I told students  that what I started as a desperate attempt to lose my weight has now  become a habit that it is an integral part of my life.

I told my students, it is amazing!. On my way, I see plants, trees, birds, butterflies, dogs, squirrels, the sky, clouds, etc.

The best part of this walking is Friends, no gadgets, no tracking of distance/time/heart rate, etc. What one needs is just a pair of good shoes, comfortable clothes, and a waist pouch to keep my phone so that I walk hands-free. Friends, I literally walk through an orchestra and music of nature, presented by the birds and insects!! I often pair this with the sight of the glorious sunset, and I make my day.

I further  said "Friends, every day, I look forward to that hour, where in I observe as much Nature as I can. I note down the questions I get, and seek answers. Questions like “What is the connection between butterfly and monsoon?” “What is the pattern of a honeybug?” “What happens to trees during cyclones?”

I further  said" I get back home and research. With all this, I am able to learn all about carbon sequestration. I also wrote a poem how whales' contribution to the carbon reduction process. The behavior of birds and insects, why “tree-plantation drives” don’t even come close to replacing a tree being cut down in my country, how clouds form patterns every day, etc."

Sometimes I pause, capture birds chirping make an audio of same. Whenever I see a snail moving on a leaf, near a hedge of tulsi plants, I make a video of the same. All this has made my life beautiful and meaningful. Of course, I have lost 3 kg of weight.

My student Raja said "I also do evening walk everyday.Madam now I am less materialistic .

I said "With the passage of time, I  have many female friends who believe in walking. We often wave at each other while doing an eco-walk and exchange our greetings. Every day, I thank the mighty for giving me the strength to do so. I feel so near to GOD ----"

I was wondering  though evening  walk looks so simple  exercise , but this experience  is so rich. This gives valuable  wisdom to everyone. It makes person emotionally  rich also.

Moral -Never feel lazy to do physical exercise. Physical exercise  liberated energy gives lot of posotivr energy and at the same time makes one emotionally  strong and wise. Please  do make physical  exercise integral  part of your life.
