Important Skills

 I am a science teacher in a government school. When I demonstrate science experiments in class, my main emphasis is on the great power of skill ie #observation. 

I am listing a few examples of the same below

Preparation of Oxygen in the lab. Potassium permanganate is heated in the presence of Manganese oxide.  Oxygen is collected in a gas jar through water #displacement. 

I ask students to do the following observation

1.What is color  of Potassium  Permanganate.(answer- dark purple in colour)

2. Why is oxygen collected through water displacement (answer- oxygen is insoluble in water)

I make it compulsory for every student to wear eye protection while performing this experiment. 

I also share observations about natural phenomena of Nature. Some examples I give to my students are listed below. 

a. Yellow leaves fall new leaves come out in trees during specific seasons of the year.

 b.When raw fruit ripes it changes colour.

 c. When cooked food decays it gives a foul smell.

While teaching I concentrate that while gaining knowledge in a particular field it is best to acquire some important skills also.

#Deep diving skill

 What is deep diving skill? The same can be explained in the following example.

Many times some students tell lies about their marks obtained in examinations. But they forget by doing so they are not helping themselves. 

By deep #diving, they will soon realize with time that being dishonest with themselves they are disturbing their soul. 

Deep diving power skill is used by police officers. They cross-examine each case of crime from many angles. To examine each angle of crime they dive deep to find the truth of happening. Diving deeply into topics can be time-consuming and challenging, it is undoubtedly a key to #success.

Power of connecting the #dots:

The same can be explained by the following example which I experience in day-to-day life.

I learned to make vegetable rice through instruction from my mother. 

My mother instructed me to put turmeric along with rice while cooking vegetable rice.

  For cooking lemon rice my mother instructed me to first boil rice separately. Then put turmeric and lemon on boiled rice. On mixing two, a bright #golden yellow color will appear. 

I observed in preparing lemon rice yellow color appeared to be a golden yellow shade, which is different from the han yellow color of vegetable rice.

Above mentioned two observations were like dots of information in my mind.

Why color of the two types of rice is different? I connected the dots through two types of rice cooking experiences.

 I connected the dots by following the procedure.

When lemon juice is added to turmeric, a chemical #reaction occurs that changes the color of the turmeric from dirty yellow to yellow-gold: I found the following explanation and a digital link of the same is given below(Explanation: Turmeric is a natural indicator that changes color based on the pH level of a solution. Turmeric contains #curcumin, a chemical that is yellow in acidic or neutral solutions but turns red in basic solutions. Lemon juice is acidic, so it changes the color of turmeric to 

 I explained the same to the students.

Moral - observation, connecting dots and deep diving are three important skills students should concentrate on.
